The miracles of Jesus were not performed to entertain, but to reveal the heart of God: compassion for the suffering, authority over evil, power over creation, and mercy for sinners. The Gospels record many miracles—often counted as 37, with more depending on how some events are grouped.
What the Miracles Reveal About God
- God’s compassion: Jesus is moved by the suffering of real people.
- God’s authority: Evil, sickness, and nature obey the Lord.
- God’s closeness: Christ comes near—touching, speaking, and restoring dignity.
- God’s purpose: Miracles point beyond themselves toward faith and salvation.
Prayer Before Reading the Miracles
Lord Jesus, open my heart. Let Your works increase my faith. Heal what is wounded in me, strengthen what is weak, and draw me into trust and obedience. Amen.
